IRCTC Updates Ticket Booking Rules from October 1, 2025 — Here’s How to Book and Confirm Your Train Ticket

Indian Railways has introduced new rules for online ticket booking starting October 1, 2025. These changes aim to make the process safer and more fair for passengers. If you are planning to travel by train, it is important to understand how to book and confirm your ticket using the IRCTC website or app.

🛤 What Is IRCTC?

IRCTC stands for Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation. It is the official platform for booking train tickets online in India. You can use the IRCTC website (www.irctc.co.in) or mobile app to book tickets, check train schedules, and more.

📅 New Rule from October 1, 2025

From October 1, 2025, IRCTC has made Aadhaar verification mandatory for booking reserved general tickets during the first 15 minutes of the reservation window. This means:

  • Only users with Aadhaar-linked IRCTC accounts can book tickets in the first 15 minutes.
  • After 15 minutes, all registered users can book tickets.
  • This rule applies only to online bookings.
  • Booking at railway station counters remains unchanged.
